Ativan® (lorazepam) is a prescription drug commonly used to treat anxiety. The drug is thought to work by enhancing the effects of gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA) in the brain -- a chemical that is naturally calming. Prior to starting treatment with Ativan, let your healthcare provider know if you have liver disease, kidney disease, or any allergies.
