Ativan® is a drug approved to treat anxiety. It is thought to work in the brain by enhancing the effects of gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA) -- a chemical that is naturally calming. Ativan comes in tablet, oral liquid, and injectable forms. Prior to taking the medication, tell your healthcare provider if you have glaucoma, depression, or a history of drug or alcohol abuse.
