Negative Effects of Ativan

Although most people tolerate
 Ativan® (lorazepam) well, it is not free of negative effects. Because this medication is not suitable for everyone, make sure you talk to your healthcare provider about any possible problems that may apply to you. For instance, make sure your healthcare provider is aware of any other medical conditions you may have and any other medications you are taking (including non-prescription medications, vitamins, and herbal supplements) before starting treatment with Ativan. Negative effects of this medication can include potential side effects.
 
Some of the most common Ativan side effects include:
 
  • Dizziness
  • Weakness
  • Unsteadiness.
     
Although negative effects of this drug tend to be minor, there are some serious side effects that require immediate medical attention. Contact your healthcare provider right away if you experience problems such as suicidal thoughts, seizures, or hallucinations.
 
Other warnings and precautions apply to women who are pregnant or breastfeeding, as well as people who have certain allergies. Also, you may not be able to take Ativan if you have certain medical conditions, such as glaucoma, liver disease, or depression.
