There are several possible medications that can negatively interact with
Ativan® (
lorazepam), and
oxycodone (
OxyContin®) is one of them. Combining Ativan with oxycodone or other narcotics or opiates can increase your risk of side effects, such as drowsiness, confusion, memory loss, or difficulty breathing. Serious side effects may also occur.
To avoid an interaction, make sure to talk with your healthcare provider about any potential problems that may occur. He or she may choose to monitor you more closely or may recommend a different
anxiety medication.
It's also important to let your healthcare provider know of any other medications you are taking (including non-prescription medicines, vitamins, and herbal supplements) before starting treatment with Ativan, as this medication can interact with several other medications.
(Click Ativan Drug Interactions for more information on this topic. This article also lists other medications that may interact with Ativan and describes the complications that may occur).
