BuSpar and Breastfeeding

Animal studies on BuSpar and breastfeeding show that the medication passes through breast milk in rats. However, it is not known whether it passes through breast milk in humans. If it does, the drug could cause problems like drowsiness or poor feeding in the nursing infant. If you are taking BuSpar and breastfeeding (or thinking of starting), be sure to talk to your healthcare provider about the possible risks.

 

BuSpar and Breastfeeding: An Overview

Currently, it is not known if BuSpar® (buspirone hydrochloride) passes through breast milk in women. If it does pass through breast milk, it might cause problems in a nursing infant. Therefore, if you are breastfeeding or thinking of starting, make sure to let your healthcare provider know.
