Clomipramine Withdrawal

Clomipramine hydrochloride (Anafranil®) and other antidepressants are known to cause withdrawal symptoms in those who quickly stop their medicine.

Clomipramine withdrawal symptoms can include, but are not limited to:

  • Dizziness
  • Nausea or vomiting
  • Headaches
  • A general ill feeling (malaise)
  • Insomnia
  • Fever
  • Irritability.

In most people, these clomipramine withdrawal symptoms improve with time, without the need for any treatment.

If you are going to be taken off of Anafranil, your healthcare provider may decide to wean you off slowly to minimize the chances of withdrawals from Anafranil. If withdrawal symptoms do occur, your healthcare provider may return you to your previous Anafranil dosage and then wean you off the medication even more slowly.
