Duloxetine Dosing

The duloxetine dosing guidelines your healthcare provider will follow will vary depending on several factors, such as the medical condition you are being treated for, existing medical conditions you may have, and other medications you may also be taking. The recommended starting duloxetine dose for treating depression is 20 mg or 30 mg twice daily, or 60 mg once daily. For treating neuropathic pain or generalized anxiety disorder, the recommended duloxetine dose is 60 mg once daily. The recommended starting dose for fibromyalgia is 30 mg once a day.

Duloxetine Dosing: An Introduction

The dose of
duloxetine hydrochloride (Cymbalta®) your healthcare provider prescribes will vary depending on a number of factors, including:

  • The medical condition you are being treated for
  • Other medical conditions you may have
  • Other medications you may currently be taking.

As is always the case, do not adjust your duloxetine dose unless your healthcare provider specifically instructs you to do so.

Duloxetine Dosing for Depression
The recommended duloxetine dose for depression is duloxetine 20 mg twice daily, 30 mg twice daily, or 60 mg once daily. Doses above duloxetine 60 mg per day are not recommended.

Duloxetine Dosing for Neuropathy
The recommended dose of duloxetine for peripheral diabetic neuropathy pain is duloxetine 60 mg once daily. Your healthcare provider may decide to start you at a lower duloxetine dose, especially if you have kidney problems.

Duloxetine Dosing for Anxiety
The recommended duloxetine dose for generalized anxiety disorder is duloxetine 60 mg once daily. Your healthcare provider may decide to start you at a lower dose (duloxetine 30 mg once daily) for a week before increasing you to duloxetine 60 mg once daily, although this is not necessary for everyone.

Duloxetine Dosing for Fibromyalgia
The recommended starting dose for fibromyalgia treatment is duloxetine 30 mg once a day for one week, after which your healthcare provider may increase the dose to duloxetine 60 mg once daily.
