During clinical trials, up to 18 percent of people stopped taking Effexor XR® (venlafaxine XR) because of side effects. A few common Effexor XR side effects include sweating, constipation, body weakness, and nausea. Some rare side effects of Effexor XR include extreme confusion, sleep apnea, asthma, and cataracts.
