Effexor XR? Effexor ER is a common misinterpreted name for Effexor XR.

Drug companies will often attach "ER" to the end of a drug name to indicate that it is an extended-release drug. However, in the case of Effexor®, the manufacturer (Wyeth) attached an "XR," which is another abbreviation for extended-release. Therefore, there is no Effexor ER.
