Rare Effexor XR Side Effects

There are other possible Effexor XR side effects that can occur. These rare side effects occur in less than 1 percent of patients. It is difficult to tell whether these side effects are actually caused by the medication or something else.

Some of these rare Effexor XR side effects include but are not limited to:

Suicidal thoughts or suicide attempts
Extreme confusion
Chest pain
High cholesterol
Face swelling
Swelling of the tongue
Hemorrhoids
Muscle and bone pain
Abnormal bleeding or bruising
Anemia
Liver problems
Mania or hypomania
Decreases in blood sodium levels
Asthma
Acne
Sleep apnea
Cataracts
Enlarged prostate (known medically as benign prostatic hyperplasia or BPH)
Hair loss (see Effexor XR and Hair Loss).

Effexor XR Side Effects: Summary

It is possible that you may experience some or none of the Effexor XR side effects explained above. Unfortunately, there is no way for your healthcare provider to know beforehand if you will have side effects from a medicine that you have never tried. Therefore, make sure to let your healthcare provider know if you develop any side effects during treatment with Effexor XR. Also let your healthcare provider know if you develop something that "just does not seem right" while taking the medicine. While it may not be a side effect of Effexor XR, your healthcare provider will be able to diagnose and treat the problem.
