Effexor XR is a drug that is used to treat depression and anxiety disorders. Oftentimes, drug companies attach XL to the end of a drug to indicate that it is an extra-long strength. However, in the case of Effexor®, Wyeth (the manufacturer) attached an XR, meaning it is an extended release medicine. Therefore, there is no Effexor XL.
