Precautions and Warnings for Escitalopram

Who Should Not Take Escitalopram?

You should not take escitalopram if:
 
  • You are allergic to escitalopram oxalate, Lexapro, or any inactive components used to make escitalopram. Your healthcare provider or pharmacist has a list of the inactive ingredients used to make escitalopram.

 

  • You have taken a monoamine oxidase inhibitor (MAOI) within the past two weeks. MAOIs include:

 

 

  • You are taking pimozide (Orap®). Pimozide is a medication that is used to treat Tourette syndrome, as well as prevent hallucinations.
