Limbitrol Addiction

People with a history of alcohol or drug addiction are more likely to become dependent on Limbitrol. Addiction is also more likely to occur if the drug has been taken daily for a long period of time or at higher-than-recommended doses. With Limbitrol addiction, you may develop serious symptoms (such as hallucinations, restlessness, or panic attacks) if you stop taking the medication without your healthcare provider's supervision.

 

Limbitrol Addiction: An Overview

Limbitrol® (chlordiazepoxide and amitriptyline) is a prescription medication used to treat depression that is associated with anxiety. Along with an antidepressant (amitriptyline), it contains a benzodiazepine medication (chlordiazepoxide). Like other benzodiazepines, chlordiazepoxide has the potential to be abused and may cause addiction or dependence. You may have a problem with Limbitrol addiction if you feel like you need to continue taking the drug even when no medical need is present or if you need to keep taking a higher Limbitrol dosage to feel the same effects.
 
Limbitrol addiction is more likely if the medicine has been taken daily for a long period of time or at higher doses. It is also more likely in people with a history of alcohol or drug addiction.
 

What Are the Signs of Limbitrol Addiction?

When a person is addicted to a medicine, the body is not able to function properly if the medicine is stopped suddenly.
 Withdrawal symptom can also occur. Some Limbitrol withdrawal symptoms include:
 
  • Seizures
  • Panic attacks
  • Personality changes
  • Sensitivity to sound or light
  • Numbness or tingling
  • Heart palpitations
  • Hallucinations
  • Memory loss
  • Nausea, vomiting, or diarrhea
  • Rapid heartbeat (tachycardia)
  • Fever
  • Anxiety
  • Tension
  • Depression
  • Insomnia
  • Restlessness or irritability
  • Confusion
  • Sweating
  • Dizziness.
     
If these problems occur, people often feel like they need to stay on their medicines just to prevent these symptoms from occurring again.
 
If you are taking increasing doses of Limbitrol, or if you feel like you cannot stop the medicine, you need to talk to a healthcare provider. Limbitrol addiction is a serious problem that requires treatment.
