Luvox Sexual Side Effects

As with any selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor, certain sexual side effects can occur during treatment with Luvox. Sexual side effects -- such as a decreased sex drive, ejaculation problems, impotence, and priapism -- have been reported in people taking Luvox during previous clinical studies. If you develop sexual side effects while taking Luvox, you should be sure to talk with your healthcare provider.

 

Luvox Sexual Side Effects: An Overview

 Luvox® (fluvoxamine maleate), like all selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs), is known to cause certain sexual side effects. Luvox sexual side effects may include:
 
  • A decreased sex drive or orgasm problems
  • Ejaculation problems
  • Impotence (also known as erectile dysfunction or ED)
  • Priapism (a painful erection that does not go away).
     
Luvox Sexual Side Effects: Sex Drive and Orgasm Problems
Luvox is known to cause a decrease in sex drive (known as libido). In previous clinical studies documenting the side effects of Luvox, a decreased sex drive occurred in up to 2 percent of men and women taking Luvox. Also, up to 2 percent of men and women taking Luvox reported anorgasmia, which is the absence of an orgasm.
 
Luvox Sexual Side Effects: Ejaculation Problems
Luvox is also known to cause ejaculation problems. Most of these ejaculation problems involve delayed ejaculation. In previous clinical studies documenting the side effects of Luvox, ejaculation problems occurred in up to 8 percent of men taking Luvox.
 
Luvox Sexual Side Effects: Impotence
Impotence is usually defined as a total inability to achieve an erection, an inconsistent ability to do so, or a tendency to sustain only brief erections. Ultimately, impotence is the repeated inability to get or keep an erection firm enough for sexual intercourse. Impotence is also known as erectile dysfunction (or ED for short).
 
In previous studies, impotence occurred in up to 2 percent of men taking Luvox.
