Fluoxetine hydrochloride (HCl) is a prescription medicine sold under the brand name Prozac®. It is used to treat a number of conditions within the brain, including:
 
Fluoxetine belongs to a class of medications known as selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs). It blocks the reuptake of serotonin in the brain when levels become unbalanced. The medication is available in capsule and liquid form, and is usually taken once or twice a day.
