Anxiety Home > Fluvoxamine Maleate

Available by prescription only, fluvoxamine maleate (Luvox®) is a medication used to treat obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD). It is approved for use in adults, teens, and children, and is sold in three different strengths. Fluvoxamine works to treat the symptoms of OCD by allowing a certain chemical (serotonin) to stay in the brain for a longer period of time.

The medication comes in tablet form and is generally taken once or twice a day. In clinical studies, some of the most commonly reported side effects included drowsiness, headaches, and nausea.
