Anxiety Home > Kava Kava Herb Information

A pepper-like plant native to the South Pacific, kava kava is often used in herbal supplements to help treat stress, anxiety disorders, insomnia, and many other conditions. Some evidence suggests that kava kava may be effective for such uses. However, it has not been clearly established that the supplement is completely safe or effective.

Although most people tolerate it well, kava kava is not right for everyone. Safety information on this herbal supplement should be reviewed with your healthcare provider before beginning treatment. This includes knowing what products could interact with it and being aware of possible side effects, such as stomach upset and liver damage.
