Anxiety Home > Types of Anxiety Disorders
Anxiety disorders, as a group, are the most common mental illness in America. More than 19 million adults in America are affected by these illnesses each year. There are many different types of anxiety disorders, including:
- Post-traumatic stress disorder
- Social phobia (or social anxiety disorder)
- Specific phobias
- Generalized anxiety disorder (GAD).
Each type has its own distinct features. However, these conditions all share some common traits, such as overwhelming fear and worry. These feelings are generally chronic, unremitting, and can grow progressively worse. Fortunately, many treatments are available, and they can be effective at any age.
