Anxiety Home > Xanax 0.25 mg Tablets

Xanax® (alprazolam) is a medication often used for treating anxiety and panic disorder. It is available by prescription only and comes in tablet form.
Xanax tablets are available in four different strengths, including:
  • 0.25 mg Xanax tablets
  • 0.5 mg Xanax tablets
  • 1 mg Xanax tablets
  • 2 mg Xanax tablets.
Most people being treated for anxiety take either the 0.25 mg tablets or the 0.5 mg tablets (one tablet, three times a day). Your healthcare provider may increase your dosage if your symptoms do not improve or decrease your dose if side effects occur.
Higher dosages are often necessary to control the symptoms of panic disorder. However, it is recommended that you start with a low dose, such as 0.5 mg three times daily. Your healthcare provider can slowly increase your dose if necessary. Starting with a low dose and slowly increasing to an effective Xanax dose helps prevent bothersome side effects.
