Anxiety Home > Xanax 1 mg Tablets

Xanax® (alprazolam) is a medication that is available by prescription to treat anxiety and panic disorder. It comes in several different strengths, including:

  • 0.25 mg Xanax tablets
  • 0.5 mg Xanax tablets
  • 1 mg Xanax tablets
  • 2 mg Xanax tablets.

The recommended starting Xanax dosage for treating anxiety is 0.25 mg to 0.5 mg three times daily. Your healthcare provider may increase your dosage if your symptoms do not improve or decrease your dose if side effects occur.

Higher dosages are often necessary to control the symptoms of panic disorder. However, it is recommended that you start with a low dose, such as 0.5 mg three times daily. Your healthcare provider can slowly increase your dose if necessary. Starting with a low dose and slowly increasing to an effective dosage of Xanax helps prevent bothersome side effects.
