Products That React With Niravam

More Detail on Niravam Drug Interactions

The following sections explain in detail the potentially negative interactions that can occur when Niravam is combined with any of the drugs listed above.

Alcohol
Combining Niravam with alcohol can increase your risk for serious side effects, such as severe drowsiness, confusion, or memory loss. In general, it is best to avoid alcohol while using Niravam.

CNS Depressants
Combining Niravam with other CNS depressants may increase your risk for serious side effects, such as drowsiness, confusion, or memory loss. Talk to your healthcare provider before taking Niravam with another CNS depressant.

CYP 3A4 Inducer Medications
The body breaks down Niravam using enzymes in the liver known as CYP 3A4 enzymes. Medications known as CYP 3A4 inducers can increase the activity of these enzymes. Combining Niravam with one of these drugs may decrease the level of Niravam in your body. Your healthcare provider may need to give you a higher Niravam dosage if you take it with a CYP 3A4 inducer.

CYP 3A4 Inhibitor Medications
The body breaks down Niravam using enzymes in the liver known as CYP 3A4 enzymes. Medications known as CYP 3A4 inhibitors can decrease the activity of these enzymes. Combining Niravam with one of these drugs may increase the level of Niravam in your body, increasing your risk for side effects. Your healthcare provider may monitor you more closely for side effects and may need to decrease your Niravam dosage if you take it with a CYP 3A4 inhibitor.

Proton Pump Inhibitors (PPIs)
Proton pump inhibitors can have variable effects on Niravam. Certain PPIs, such as dexlansoprazole, esomeprazole, and omeprazole, may increase the levels of Niravam in your body, increasing your risk for side effects.

In addition, the manufacturer of Niravam cautions that medications that alter stomach acid, such as PPIs, may decrease the amount of Niravam absorbed into the body. This would decrease blood levels of this drug. Because of these possible interactions, your healthcare provider may monitor you more closely if you take Niravam with a PPI.
