Who Should Not Take Paroxetine Controlled Release?

You should not take paroxetine controlled release if you:
 
  • Are allergic to paroxetine controlled release, Paxil CR, or any inactive components used to make the medicine. Your healthcare provider or pharmacist has a list of the inactive ingredients.
     
  • Have taken a monoamine oxidase inhibitor (MAOI) within the past two weeks. Also, you should not take an MAOI if you have taken paroxetine controlled release within the past two weeks. MAOIs can include:

 

 

 

  • Are taking pimozide (Orap®). Pimozide is a medication used to treat Tourette syndrome and to prevent hallucinations.
