A healthcare provider may prescribe
Paxil® (
paroxetine hydrochloride) to treat several conditions affecting the brain, including
depression,
obsessive-compulsive disorder, and certain
anxiety disorders. There are four strengths of Paxil on the market, and Paxil 40 mg tablets are the strongest strength available. The dosage that your healthcare provider recommends will vary depending on a number of factors, such as your age, other medical conditions you may have, and other medications you are currently taking (including vitamins and herbal supplements).
The recommended starting dose is typically Paxil 20 mg once daily (usually in the morning). However, the starting dose for treating
panic disorder and for elderly people or people with liver or kidney problems is 10 mg once daily. Your healthcare provider may choose to increase the dosage if symptoms continue, or decrease the dose if side effects occur.
