Paxil Indications

Paxil^® (paroxetine hydrochloride) is a medication often prescribed for the treatment of depression. It is also approved to treat panic disorder, generalized anxiety disorder, obsessive-compulsive disorder, social anxiety disorder, and post-traumatic stress disorder.

Healthcare providers may also occasionally recommend this drug off-label to treat other conditions. Off-label Paxil indications may include the treatment of:

Alcoholism
Autism
Dementia
Diabetic neuropathy
Eating disorders (including anorexia and bulimia)
Hot flashes
Obesity
Premature ejaculation
Tourette syndrome.

Paxil is not approved for use in children or teenagers. In one study of Paxil in children and teenagers with depression, the antidepressant was not shown to be effective. Talk to your healthcare provider about the risks and benefits of using Paxil in children or teenagers.
