Valium Indications

Valium® (diazepam) is a prescription medicine commonly used for the treatment of anxiety. It is not intended for treating "everyday anxiety" and is recommended only for short-term use. The medication can also be used to relieve symptoms associated with alcohol withdrawal, treat muscle spasms due to cerebral palsy or other disorders, and stop seizures (when used along with other seizure medications).

Healthcare providers may occasionally recommend off-label Valium indications as well. Off-label uses of this medication can include the treatment of insomnia, agitation, and benzodiazepine withdrawal (which is due to stopping a benzodiazepine medication too quickly).

Valium has not been adequately studied in children younger than six months old. Talk to your healthcare provider about the benefits and risks of using Valium in children.
