Valium® (diazepam) is a medicine that is available by prescription to treat anxiety, muscle spasms, and alcohol withdrawal. It can also be used along with other seizure medications for the treatment of seizures. By enhancing the effects of a certain naturally calming brain chemical, the drug can help relax muscles, cause sleepiness, impair short-term memory, reduce anxiety, and stop seizures. While most people tolerate this medication well, potential side effects include coordination problems, drowsiness, and fatigue.
