As with many other medications,
Xanax® (
alprazolam) can cause side effects. Some of the most common side effects of Xanax include:
- Drowsiness
- Coordination problems
- Increased appetite
If side effects do occur, they tend to be minor and generally require no treatment or are easily treated by you or your healthcare provider. However, there are some potentially serious side effects with Xanax that require immediate medical attention. Contact your healthcare provider if you experience side effects such as hallucinations, suicidal thoughts, or
depression.
Other Xanax warnings and precautions apply to women who are pregnant or breastfeeding, as well as people who have certain
allergies (including allergies to foods, dyes, or preservatives). Also, you may not be able to take Xanax if you have certain medical conditions, such as liver disease, lung problems, or
glaucoma.
