Since Xanax® (alprazolam) and alcohol are both central nervous system depressants and can slow brain activity, it is generally recommended that you avoid combining the two. You may be more sensitive to the effects of alcohol if you are taking Xanax. Alcohol can also increase your risk of certain Xanax side effects, such as dizziness, memory problems, and drowsiness.
(Click Xanax and Alcohol for more information on the potential risks of drinking alcohol while taking Xanax and the side effects that may occur as a result of mixing the drug with alcohol.)
