Xanax® (alprazolam) is a medication often used for treating conditions such as anxiety and panic disorder. It works by enhancing the effects of gamma-aminobutyric acid, a brain chemical that is naturally calming. Xanax comes in tablet form and is available by prescription only. Potential side effects of the medicine include coordination problems, fatigue, and drowsiness. Before starting Xanax, talk to your healthcare provider if you have breathing problems, liver disease, or any allergies.
